Presidency Extends Surveyor General’s Tenure to Two Years. current Surveyor General of the Federation, Mr. AbuduGaniyu Adebomehin. The extension, which will see the Surveyor General remain in office until January 2028, is a strategic move by the Presidency aimed at ensuring the completion of critical reforms within the nation’s geospatial data and land administration systems.
The decision was announced in a statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
The two-year extension is set to take effect from January 5, 2026, the date Adebomehin’s initial term would have expired. The primary justification for the extension is tied to the recent transfer of the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGOF) to the Presidency. This administrative shift places the vital function of national surveying and mapping directly under the supervision of the executive arm of government.

The Presidency is keen to ensure continuity and the successful implementation of the sweeping reforms initiated by Mr. Adebomehin across Nigeria’s geospatial data framework.
The official statement outlined the President’s clear expectations for the Surveyor General during the extended two-year period. Adebomehin is mandated to consolidate and complete the ongoing reforms, with a specific focus on four key areas of strategic national importance
National Land Management and Administration: Streamlining and modernising the country’s system for managing land records and ownership.
Highways and Abutting Land Infrastructure Coordination: Ensuring accurate geospatial data is used for all major infrastructure projects, including highways and surrounding land use.
Reclamation and Erosion Control Programmes: Providing the necessary mapping intelligence for environmental protection and remedial projects.
