Nationwide Clampdown on Tinted Glass and Illegal Sirens

Nationwide Clampdown on Tinted Glass and Illegal Sirens

The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has commenced a stringent, nationwide enforcement operation targeting the unauthorized use of tinted glass on vehicles and the illegal installation of sirens and revolving lights.

The move signals a concerted effort by the police hierarchy to enhance public safety and curb criminal activity facilitated by non-compliant vehicles.

Zero Tolerance for Unauthorised Tinted Glass

Effective immediately across the country, law enforcement agents are mandated to conduct routine checks to ensure all vehicles with darkened windows possess a valid permit. The directive, issued by the Inspector-General of Police, specifically emphasizes that all previous exemptions or permits granted for tinted glass are now void.

Motorists are now required to obtain or revalidate their Tinted Glass Permit (TGP) through the officially designated police portal. This regulation adheres to the existing Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act of 2004, which aims to improve visibility for security checks and deter criminals who often rely on heavily darkened windows to conceal their identities and activities. Any vehicle owner operating a car with tinted glass without the new, verifiable permit risks immediate impoundment and subsequent prosecution.

Crackdown on Illegal Sirens

In addition to tinted glass regulations, the police action simultaneously targets the illegal use of sirens, air horns, and revolving lights—paraphernalia legally restricted to designated emergency vehicles and high-ranking government officials. The police stress that private individuals using these devices to flout traffic laws or create unnecessary public disturbance will be sanctioned.

The enforcement exercise is not limited to specific regions. Reports indicate simultaneous operations have begun in key regions across the geo-political zones, including states in the South-South like Edo and Delta, and northern states like Kaduna, reinforcing the mandate for compliance on a national scale.

The police have urged all vehicle owners and drivers to cooperate fully with the directive, stressing that compliance is a collective responsibility geared toward securing the country. Motorists are advised to seek immediate compliance to avoid punitive measures and ensure their journey is free from unnecessary inconvenience. FOR MORE INFORMATION, I RECOMMEND SONGBUX.
