Kunle Kuti Speaks on Wizkid and Seun Kuti Clash

The Wizkid and Seun Kuti feud has taken on deeper emotional meaning after Kunle Kuti finally addressed the controversy, offering a calm and reflective voice amid the online chaos. Speaking on TheCable’s Our Two Kobo podcast, the son of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti admitted he was genuinely heartbroken by the public fallout between his younger brother Seun and global music star Wizkid.

Kunle explained that watching two artists he respects descend into a heated exchange felt unnecessary and painful, especially given Wizkid’s long standing admiration for Fela.

He revealed that Wizkid is one of the few contemporary artists he has ever wanted to meet personally, noting the irony that while Wizkid carries a tattoo of Fela, the Kuti children themselves chose not to ink their father’s image out of reverence, a gesture Kunle once viewed as a sign of deep respect rather than rivalry.

Addressing the root of the conflict, Kunle maintained that comparing Wizkid to Fela misses the point entirely. He acknowledged Wizkid’s extraordinary commercial success and global influence but stressed that Fela’s legacy was forged through activism, imprisonment, and decades of radical music that challenged military rule and social injustice.

According to Kunle, they belong to entirely different worlds, one driven by cultural resistance and the other by modern pop dominance. He expressed disappointment that the exchange escalated to personal remarks about their late father, especially after Wizkid’s controversial response and Seun’s demand that the Fela tattoo be removed.

Echoing earlier calls from his sister Yeni Kuti, Kunle urged restraint, reminding fans and artists alike that Fela’s legacy represents more than online arguments. He appealed for unity, perspective, and responsible use of influence, emphasizing that no chart success can outweigh the historical weight of a legacy that helped shape Nigerian identity.
