“I Narrowly Escaped Death”, Ex-Commissioner Speaks on Ondo APC Congress Attack

Ondo APC Congress Attack

The Ondo APC Congress Attack has sparked widespread concern across the state following a violent ambush on former Ondo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Bosede Olaniyi. The incident, described as a brazen assassination attempt, occurred along the busy Akure Owo Expressway as she was returning from a political meeting in the northern senatorial district.

According to eyewitness accounts, armed men allegedly laid in wait at a strategic bend on the highway before intercepting her convoy. The attackers reportedly unleashed gunshots and hurled heavy objects at her vehicle, creating panic and confusion on the road. Her SUV sustained significant damage as windows were shattered during the assault.

Speaking exclusively after the incident, Mrs. Olaniyi recounted how the attackers appeared to have identified her vehicle before launching the attack. She alleged that the men, described as organized political thugs, forced her driver to slow down while attempting to drag her out of the SUV. She credited her survival to her driver’s quick thinking, which allowed them to break through a narrow opening and escape before further gunfire could reach the passenger compartment.

The former commissioner linked the attack to growing political tensions within the state, particularly disputes surrounding internal party matters. She disclosed that prior to the assault, she had received anonymous threats over her political stance and recent alignment within the ruling party. Political observers say the development highlights deepening divisions ahead of upcoming electoral activities in the state.

Security concerns have also intensified in the Akure Owo corridor, where residents have repeatedly reported suspicious armed groups operating in nearby forested areas. In response to the attack, the Ondo State Police Command confirmed the deployment of tactical units to the axis to track down those responsible. Officials say investigations are ongoing.

The state government has condemned the violence, assuring residents that efforts are being intensified to prevent any resurgence of politically motivated attacks. Authorities emphasized that the state will not tolerate acts capable of undermining peace and democratic stability.

As investigations continue, residents remain uneasy over what many describe as a troubling sign of Ondo political violence resurfacing in the state’s political landscape.
