Local Universities Record Milestone

The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) marked a major milestone as four of its scholars were included in the elite ranking compiled by the Top Scientists Network (TopSciNet). This list identifies researchers whose work measured by citation impact, productivity, and h-index places them in the top two percent globally within their respective fields.

The honored academics from FUOYE include:

  • Prof. Olayide Samuel Lawal
  • Dr. Adeolu Adesoji Adediran
  • Prof. Bukola Olalekan Bolaji
  • Prof. Basiru Olaitan Ajiboye

The institution noted that this achievement affirms its growing reputation as a center for cutting-edge research in West Africa and underscores its commitment to producing research that addresses both national and global challenges.

Diaspora Excellence Recognized

The ranking also celebrated the outstanding contributions of Nigerian-born scientists excelling in international institutions.

A notable honoree is Professor Ogechi Adeola, a Nigerian academic and the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Kigali in Rwanda. Professor Adeola was recognized for her significant contributions in the field of Business and Management, standing out in a list that is often dominated by medical and health sciences.

Another distinguished scholar, Dr. Ayodeji Amobonye Emmanuel, was also celebrated for his impactful work in Biotechnology. Dr. Emmanuel, who earned his PhD at the Durban University of Technology in South Africa and is currently a Research Fellow at the Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuania, was lauded by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) as a “beacon of excellence” and a worthy ambassador in the global scientific community.

In total, the 2025 edition of the ranking developed by Stanford University and Elsevier and based on Scopus-indexed data recognized 291 researchers from Nigerian universities, alongside numerous diaspora Nigerians, demonstrating a growing scientific footprint compared to the previous year.
