Fake News: Chief Of Staff Gbajabiamila Not Replaced, Tinubu
The Nigerian Presidency has issued a firm rebuttal against a surge of misinformation circulating about the executive branch. In an official statement released on December 25, 2025, the government clarified that Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila has not been removed or replaced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The statement was prompted by a viral social media report falsely claiming that the President had appointed his Principal Private Secretary, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, to assume the role.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described the rumors as a deliberate “fabrication by mischievous purveyors of fake news.” According to the Presidency, there is no truth to the claim that any personnel changes have occurred within the Office of the Chief of Staff. Onanuga confirmed that Gbajabiamila remains firmly in his position, while Muri-Okunola continues to serve in his designated capacity as Principal Private Secretary. The administration warned that such viral falsehoods are designed to create discord and undermine cohesion within the inner workings of government.
This incident underscores the ongoing challenge of digital misinformation in Nigeria’s political space. The Presidency urged media outlets and social media users to exercise professional responsibility by verifying information through official channels before publication. Since taking office in June 2023, Gbajabiamila has been a central figure in the Tinubu administration, transitioning from his former role as Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives to overseeing the complex administrative functions of the Presidential Villa. The government reiterated that reports of a leadership reshuffle are unfounded and should be disregarded as distractions from the ongoing “Renewed Hope” developmental agenda.

As the administration moves into the 2026 fiscal year, the focus remains on institutional stability. The Presidency’s prompt clarification aims to maintain public trust and prevent the spread of unverified claims that could affect investor confidence or national stability. By reaffirming Chief of Staff Gbajabiamila’s status, the President signals that his core team remains intact and fully dedicated to addressing the country’s economic and security challenges.
