In a major development in the ongoing anti, graft war, the immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment and former Governor of Anambra State, Senator Chris Ngige, has been formally arraigned and subsequently ordered to be detained. Following his arraignment before a Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday, December 12, 2025, the court ordered that Chris Ngige Remanded be held in the Kuje Correctional Center pending the perfection of his bail conditions.
Senator Ngige was brought before the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to face a series of corruption charges related to his tenure as a public servant. While the full details of the charges were not immediately released, the accusations center on alleged abuse of office and the misappropriation of public funds. The arraignment follows Ngige’s initial detention by the EFCC earlier in the week for interrogation regarding the undisclosed financial allegations.
During the court session, the former Minister pleaded not guilty to all the charges leveled against him by the anti, graft agency. His defense counsel immediately moved an application for bail, arguing that the defendant is a respectable member of society and would not pose a flight risk, guaranteeing his attendance throughout the trial

The presiding judge, while granting bail to the defendant, attached stringent conditions. The court set bail at ₦500 million, requiring Ngige to provide two sureties who must be responsible citizens and own verifiable property within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Furthermore, the sureties are required to submit their recent passport photographs to the court registrar as part of the legal documentation.
The court specifically ordered that Senator Ngige be remanded in the Kuje Correctional Center until all the specified bail conditions are fully met and verified. The case was subsequently adjourned to a future date for the commencement of the trial proper.
