The former Governor of Anambra State and one, time Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, has been taken into custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Abuja. The news of the detention caused immediate concern and confusion, prompting an official clarification from his media team confirming that Chris Ngige detained by EFCC is not missing but is cooperating with the anti, graft agency as part of an ongoing investigation.
Senator Ngige was reportedly picked up by operatives of the EFCC in Abuja on Tuesday, December 10, 2025. Following initial reports and widespread speculation, a clarification was swiftly issued by his media aide, Pius Okonkwo. Okonkwo firmly stated that the former governor was not kidnapped, as some rumours suggested, but was indeed in the custody of the EFCC for a scheduled interrogation.
The aide further confirmed that Ngige was invited by the anti, graft body to answer questions regarding certain allegations and that the former Minister was cooperating fully with the commission’s investigation team. The purpose of his detention is specifically for interrogation relating to undisclosed financial matters.

While the EFCC has not released an official statement detailing the exact nature of the allegations against the former Governor and Senator, sources suggest the probe is connected to his time in public service. Ngige served as the Governor of Anambra State from 2003 to 2006, and later as a Minister under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The decision by the EFCC to detain the high, profile politician, even if temporary, underscores the commission’s intensifying focus on investigating former public office holders, irrespective of their political affiliations or past positions. His detention is viewed as a significant development in the anti, corruption war, signaling that the EFCC is prepared to pursue investigations into the tenures of former governors and ministers.
Senator Ngige is expected to remain in the EFCC facility as the commission concludes its interrogation regarding the matter under review. For more information, I recommend Songbux.
