Bandit Attack Rocks Kaduna Community, Six Victims Affected
A terrifying Bandit Attack Rocks Kaduna Community as gunmen descended upon Bundu Kahugu in the Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, leaving a trail of blood and despair. The late-night assault, which occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025, resulted in the cold-blooded murder of three residents and the forceful abduction of three others.
The attackers reportedly moved into the village under the cover of darkness around 11:00 pm, catching the sleeping community completely off guard with a barrage of sporadic gunfire that echoed through the quiet neighborhood.
The victims of the fatal shooting have been identified as Felix Augustine, Luka Yakubu, and Ezra Namata. According to Ishaya Dauda, the National Secretary of the Bundu Kahugu community, the gunmen terrorized the village for a significant duration, focusing their efforts on abduction once the initial chaos had subsided.
This incident marks a grim recurring pattern for the area, coming barely two weeks after a similar invasion that claimed four lives, bringing the total number of residents killed in the last fortnight to seven. The persistent nature of these raids has thrown the local population into a state of mourning and high-level anxiety, as many now fear that their homes have become permanent targets for marauding gangs.
Residents have voiced their frustration over the lack of immediate intervention, citing poor telecommunication signals as a primary factor that aids the criminals. The “network blackouts” in the Lere axis often prevent locals from reaching out to security agencies during emergencies, allowing the bandits to operate with a sense of impunity and escape into nearby forests before help can arrive.
The community has made an impassioned plea to the Kaduna State Government and the military to establish a permanent security outpost in the area, stressing that without a localized presence of armed personnel, the village remains a sitting duck for future excursions.
While the Kaduna State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement regarding the pursuit of the kidnappers, the local vigilante groups have been put on high alert. The abduction of three more citizens adds to the growing tally of insecurity issues plaguing the North West region as the year 2025 draws to a close.
For the families of Felix, Luka, and Ezra, the transition into the new year is marred by the loss of their loved ones, while the relatives of the three abductees remain in a harrowing wait for news of their safety or ransom demands from the shadows of the forest.
