The Federal Government begins salary reimbursement as civil servants across Nigeria start receiving their delayed February pay. The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) confirmed on Monday, March 2, 2026, that the disbursement for treasury-funded workers is now underway nationwide.
According to Mokwa, the system error affected the smooth transfer of funds from the national treasury to individual bank accounts. The issue required urgent intervention from government information technology specialists and financial engineers before payments could resume. He assured workers that the technical problem has been fully resolved and that safeguards have been introduced to prevent a recurrence in future payment cycles.
In addition to the monthly salaries, the Federal Government has approved the payment of one month’s wage award arrears as part of efforts to ease rising living costs. The wage award forms part of three months of outstanding arrears owed to federal workers as a cushion against economic reforms and inflationary pressures.
The OAGF disclosed that processing for the approved arrears has been completed following directives from the Ministry of Finance to prioritize worker welfare. The release of funds comes shortly after the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council issued an ultimatum to the government, warning of possible industrial action if the outstanding payments were not settled.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, outlined a phased payment plan during consultations with labour leaders. Under the arrangement, the May 2024 wage award arrears are being paid alongside the February salaries, while arrears for June and July are scheduled for settlement in March and April respectively. The approach, officials say, is designed to manage government cash flow responsibly while ensuring workers receive their entitlements without further delay.
As disbursements continue, civil servants across various ministries, departments, and agencies have begun confirming salary alerts. The Nigeria February salary delay update marks a temporary relief in ongoing negotiations between the Federal Government and labour unions concerning a new minimum wage framework.
Although authorities insist the technical fault has been resolved, financial regulators remain vigilant to ensure stability within the digital payment system, particularly during high volume month end transactions.
