The Kwara APC Holds Peaceful Ward Congresses 2026 have concluded successfully as the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State conducted its internal elections across the state in a calm and orderly atmosphere, with new ward executives emerging through a consensus process.
The congresses, held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, took place simultaneously across all 193 wards, drawing large numbers of party members who turned out to participate in the grassroots electoral exercise. In what party officials described as a deliberate effort to prevent internal disputes, most positions were filled through affirmation rather than contested voting, reinforcing unity within the ranks.
Correspondents who monitored the process across the three senatorial districts reported a peaceful environment as members endorsed candidate lists earlier agreed upon by party stakeholders in each ward. In Ilorin West and Ilorin South, the exercise progressed swiftly under the supervision of electoral officers dispatched from the party’s national secretariat. Voice votes were used to ratify the new ward executives, bringing the exercise to a close without incident.
Party leaders described the development as a significant achievement for the state chapter, noting that the seamless transition demonstrates the party’s capacity to manage internal diversity without conflict. The calm proceedings are also seen as positioning the party strongly ahead of future general elections.
Speaking with journalists after the conclusion of the congresses, the Kwara APC State Chairman commended members for their discipline and cooperation. He stated that the decision to adopt affirmation was collectively reached by key caucuses to safeguard party unity and preserve grassroots strength. According to him, the newly elected ward leaders are expected to serve as a vital link between government and the electorate, ensuring effective communication of policies and programmes at the community level.
Observers from the Independent National Electoral Commission were present at selected venues to monitor compliance with party guidelines and constitutional provisions. Although minor logistical delays were recorded in a few remote locations, the overall conduct of the exercise was widely regarded as efficient and transparent.
Party members who spoke with reporters expressed satisfaction with the consensus model, saying it helped prevent factional disputes often associated with internal party elections and strengthened communal harmony.
