CAC Marks 35 Years With Major Staff Welfare Boost

CAC staff welfare took center stage as the Corporate Affairs Commission celebrated 35 years of regulating Nigeria’s corporate ecosystem, marking the milestone with the launch of a landmark housing loan and health scheme for its workforce. The initiative signals a renewed commitment to staff wellbeing and institutional sustainability as the Commission looks beyond its achievements to the future of service delivery.

Speaking during the anniversary celebration in Abuja, the Registrar General of the Corporate Affairs Commission, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji SAN, described the 35th anniversary as more than a ceremonial reflection on the past. He said it represents a strategic pledge to invest in the people whose dedication continues to uphold Nigeria’s business registration framework.

The newly introduced welfare package is the first of its kind in the Commission’s history, offering a structured and comprehensive support system that is now embedded within staff compensation and benefits.

At the core of the initiative is a housing loan scheme designed to help eligible employees access low interest financing to acquire or build personal homes. By reducing the pressure of rental expenses, the programme aims to enhance financial security, encourage long term career commitment, and improve overall staff productivity.

Complementing the housing initiative is an upgraded health insurance scheme that provides access to quality medical care for employees and their immediate families. Through partnerships with leading Health Maintenance Organizations and alignment with National Health Insurance Authority standards, the Commission is strengthening its position as one of the most progressive employers in the Nigerian public sector.

Reflecting on the CAC’s evolution since its establishment under the Companies and Allied Matters Act, the Registrar General noted the transformation from a manual, paper driven registry to a digitally advanced institution with global standards.

The introduction of the Companies Registration Portal has made it possible for businesses to complete registration within 24 hours, significantly improving ease of doing business. Over the past three and a half decades, millions of enterprises have been registered, laying a solid legal foundation for economic growth and foreign investment. The Commission has also remained one of the Federal Government’s most consistent non oil revenue generating agencies.

As part of the anniversary programme, CAC leadership reaffirmed its commitment to innovation, revealing plans to deepen the use of artificial intelligence in business registration to eliminate delays and improve service efficiency. The welfare initiatives, according to the Registrar General, are critical to achieving these goals, as a motivated and secure workforce is central to protecting the integrity of Nigeria’s corporate records.

The celebration attracted key stakeholders from the legal and business communities, many of whom praised the Commission for combining regulatory discipline with a people focused approach to internal management.

The 35th anniversary of the Corporate Affairs Commission stands as both a celebration of institutional progress and a statement of human centered leadership.
