Achievers University: Final Year Student Expelled Over Boko Haram Threat
In a swift move to protect lives and uphold national security, Achievers University expels final year student over Boko Haram threat, a decision that has sent shockwaves across Nigeria’s academic community. The management of Achievers University, Owo, confirmed the permanent dismissal of a final-year student after a highly disturbing social media post allegedly inviting Boko Haram elements to the university campus. The action was publicly disclosed during the institution’s 2025/2026 matriculation ceremony and reinforces the school’s zero-tolerance stance on security-related misconduct.
According to the university, the student, whose identity remains undisclosed for security reasons, posted content online that was interpreted as a direct threat to the safety of students and staff. The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Bode Ayorinde, stated that the message suggested sympathy for or collaboration with terrorist elements, a violation deemed both criminal and morally indefensible.
Professor Ayorinde explained that such conduct represents a grave breach of the matriculation oath and a violation of Nigerian law. He stressed that no academic qualification is worth endangering lives, particularly in a country that has endured prolonged insurgency and security challenges.
Following a detailed review by the university’s disciplinary committee, management concluded that expulsion was the only appropriate response. Unlike lesser misconduct cases that may warrant suspension, any reference to or engagement with terrorist groups such as Boko Haram was considered too severe to overlook.
As part of the disciplinary measures, the university immediately terminated the student’s enrollment and revoked all academic privileges. Management also approved a full refund of the student’s fees for the current academic session to ensure a clean legal separation. Relevant security agencies were informed to assess any external risks linked to the online post.
Using the incident as a cautionary example, Professor Ayorinde warned newly admitted students about what he described as “digital extremism.” While the university supports free expression, he emphasized that speech capable of inciting violence or threatening public safety will not be tolerated. He added that the institution has intensified monitoring of social media content associated with its name or location.
The expulsion forms part of a broader disciplinary cleanup at the university. Management confirmed that several students were recently dismissed for producing and circulating explicit content and engaging in other acts that violated the institution’s code of conduct. Professor Ayorinde reiterated that Achievers University is committed to producing graduates who excel in both character and learning.

Addressing parents and guardians, the university urged families to take greater responsibility for monitoring their children’s online behavior. The school emphasized that education is a shared responsibility and warned against digital activities that could be interpreted as supporting terrorism, cultism, or criminal behavior.
As academic activities continue, Achievers University has increased security presence on campus to reassure students, parents, and the wider public. The dismissal of the final-year student stands as a stark reminder that in the digital age, a single reckless post can erase years of academic effort. University authorities concluded that collective safety will always take precedence over individual academic pursuits.
