Achievers University Owo Matriculates 936 Students, Enforces Zero-Tolerance Discipline
In a colorful and solemn ceremony held on Friday, January 30, 2026, Achievers University Owo matriculation 2026 officially welcomed 936 new students into its academic fold. The event, which took place at the Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed Auditorium, served as a formal induction for the 2025/2026 academic session.
While the atmosphere was celebratory, the university leadership took the opportunity to reinforce a strict code of conduct, emphasizing that academic success must be underpinned by moral integrity and discipline.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Bode Ayorinde, delivered a powerful charge to the matriculants, focusing on the rising twin threats of substance abuse and digital irresponsibility. He stated unequivocally that the university maintains a zero-tolerance policy for social vices, warning that any student found culpable of drug use, cultism, or cyber-related offenses would face immediate expulsion.
To underscore the gravity of his warning, Professor Ayorinde disclosed that the institution recently took the difficult but necessary step of expelling over 15 students. These disciplinary actions were primarily linked to the production and circulation of “sex videos” and other explicit digital content that brought the university’s name into disrepute.
“You put your phone before you, dance naked, and tag Achievers University? I will dismiss you,” Ayorinde warned. “Use social media for positive things. Women are not meant for entertainment; they are meant to rule the world.”
The Pro-Chancellor also revealed a particularly sensitive case from the previous year where a final-year student was dismissed for making reckless comments on social media that were perceived as inviting external security threats to the campus. In that instance, the university chose to refund the student’s fees and terminate their studentship to preserve the safety of the entire community.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Amos Aremu, also addressed the gathering, urging the 936 freshmen to view their admission as a platform for self-discovery and intellectual growth. He highlighted that university life is a “tapestry woven with excitement and inevitable challenges,” designed to refine critical thinking and awaken leadership qualities.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the matriculation lecture titled “Your University, Your Network: Building Relationships and Opportunities,” delivered by Mrs. Ayobami Felix-Olaniyi. She encouraged the students to:
- Engage with Mentors: Actively seek guidance from lecturers and senior university staff.
- Build Collaborative Ties: Foster supportive relationships with peers that enhance learning.
- Leverage Professional Networks: Look beyond the classroom to build connections that will sustain their careers long after graduation.
Beyond student conduct, Professor Ayorinde addressed parents and guardians, urging them to be active partners in their children’s educational journey. He cautioned against “indulging wrongdoing” and reminded parents that their investment in university education is too significant to be wasted on social vices. The university reaffirmed its commitment to a safe environment, stressing that staff or students found guilty of sexual harassment or molestation would be sanctioned without hesitation.
