Anthony Joshua Survives Fatal Car Crash, 2 Confirmed Dead

The global boxing community was plunged into a state of shock on Monday morning after news emerged that two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua Survives a horrific motor accident on the Lagos, Ibadan Expressway. The incident, which occurred around 11:00 am on December 29, 2025, resulted in the tragic deaths of two passengers at the scene.

Joshua, who was visiting his ancestral homeland following a recent knockout victory over Jake Paul in Miami, was traveling in a black Lexus SUV when the vehicle rammed into a stationary truck near the Makun axis in Ogun State.

According to detailed reports from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Ogun State Police Command, the Lexus, with registration number KRD 850 HN, was part of a two vehicle convoy heading toward Sagamu. Preliminary investigations suggest that the car was traveling at a high speed when the driver attempted a wrongful overtaking maneuver, losing control and crashing into a red Sinotruck parked by the roadside.

Eyewitnesses at the scene, including those near the Danco filling station, described a violent impact that left the front of the SUV completely mangled. While the 36 year old boxer, who was seated in the rear, escaped with minor injuries and was conscious during the rescue, two male British nationals sitting in the front and beside him were killed instantly.

The Ogun State Police Commissioner, Lanre Ogunlowo, confirmed that Joshua was immediately evacuated by his security detail, who were following in a separate Pajero SUV, and taken to an undisclosed hospital for urgent medical attention. Footage from the scene appeared to show a dazed Joshua being helped from the wreckage, surrounded by shattered glass and debris.

The bodies of the deceased victims have since been deposited at the Livewell Morgue in Sagamu. The Ogun State Government has already expressed its “profound condolences” to the families of the victims, describing the event as a deeply painful loss during the festive season.

As of Monday afternoon, Joshua’s UK based management team and promoter Eddie Hearn have confirmed they are in the process of establishing full contact with the boxer, though initial reports indicate he is “fine” despite the severe shock of the event. The FRSC has used this tragedy to reiterate its warning to motorists against excessive speed and dangerous overtaking on high speed corridors like the Lagos, Ibadan Expressway.
