Saidu Mohammed, Larry Ettah Join Seplat Energy Board as Non-Executive Directors
In a strategic move to fortify its corporate governance and deepen its technical leadership, Seplat Energy Plc has announced the appointment of Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed and Mr. Larry Ephraim Ettah as Independent Non-Executive Directors. The appointments, which were confirmed following a rigorous selection process in line with the company’s Board Succession Plan, are set to take effect on January 1, 2026. These veteran leaders fill the critical vacancies created by the departure of Mr. Bello Rabiu and Mr. Babs Omotowa, who transitioned to the board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC, Limited earlier this year.
Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed joins the Seplat board with an illustrious career spanning over 37 years in the upstream and midstream sectors of the oil and gas industry. He is widely recognized for his tenure as the Group Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of the Gas and Power Directorate at the NNPC. His technical fingerprints are visible across Nigeria’s energy landscape, having played pivotal roles in the conceptualization and delivery of the Escravos, Lagos Pipeline Expansion, the Ajaokuta, Kaduna, Kano, AKK, Gas Pipeline, and the ambitious Nigeria LNG Train 7 project. A fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and a registered member of COREN, Mohammed’s deep understanding of the Petroleum Industry Act, PIA, and gas commercialization frameworks will be invaluable as Seplat pursues its transition toward cleaner energy solutions.
Complementing this technical depth is the vast corporate experience of Mr. Larry Ephraim Ettah, a business icon who spent three decades at UAC of Nigeria Plc. During his eleven, year tenure as the Group Managing Director and CEO of the conglomerate, Ettah led a successful era of restructuring and international partnerships, including high, stakes joint ventures with global giants like Tiger Brands and Imperial Logistics. Since retiring from UAC in 2018, he has continued to shape the Nigerian business environment as the Executive Chairman of Barracuda Capital Partners and a founding director of Coronation Merchant Bank. His boardroom track record is extensive, having served as the President of the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association, NECA, and on the boards of major firms like Lafarge Africa and Mixta Africa.

The Chairman of Seplat Energy, Mr. Udoma Udo Udoma, expressed high confidence in the new appointees, noting that their complementary backgrounds in energy infrastructure and large, scale corporate management will drive the company’s strategic growth objectives. The timing of their entry is particularly significant as Seplat continues to expand its footprint in the indigenous energy sector while navigating a complex regulatory environment. With Mohammed’s policy expertise and Ettah’s reputation for principled governance, the board is well, positioned to deliver sustained value to its international and local stakeholders.
