In a significant national security move, the Police Service Commission (PSC), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has announced the official commencement of the recruitment process for 50,000 Police Constables. This mass recruitment drive is a direct response to the directive issued by President Bola Tinubu on November 26, 2025, when he declared a nationwide security emergency. The core objective of the exercise is to strengthen community policing, bolster internal security across the country, and substantially expand the manpower capacity of the Nigeria Police Force.
The recruitment portal is scheduled to be active from Monday, December 15, 2025, and will remain open until Sunday, January 25, 2026. The PSC, which has worked with the NPF, the Ministry of Police Affairs, and the Federal Character Commission to fine-tune the process, has committed to a seamless, transparent, and merit-based exercise that upholds the principles of fairness and federal character. The commission has strongly warned that the application is entirely free of charge, urging applicants to be wary of fraudsters attempting to exploit the process.
Recruitment Cadres and Requirements
The recruitment drive covers two main categories: General Duty and Specialist Cadres.
1. General Duty Cadre:
- Educational Qualification: Applicants must possess GCE Ordinary Level, SSCE/NECO, or equivalent qualifications with a minimum of five credits, which must include English Language and Mathematics, obtained in no more than two sittings.

- Physical Requirements (Minimum Height): Male candidates must be at least 1.67 meters (5 feet 5 inches), and female candidates must be at least 1.64 meters (5 feet 4 inches).
2. Specialists Cadre:

General Eligibility Criteria for All Applicants: All interested candidates must be Nigerian citizens by birth, be certified by a government medical officer to be medically, physically, and psychologically fit, be of good character with no criminal record, and be free from financial embarrassment.
To ensure the new constables receive high-quality, professional instruction, the Nigeria Police Force has initiated a plan to recruit qualified retired officers to serve as ad-hoc trainers in its colleges and training schools nationwide.

The nationwide directive, issued on December 8, 2025, calls for the immediate compilation of names of qualified retired officers who served between the ranks of Inspector and Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) and retired between 2020 and 2025. These retired personnel are expected to be “well grounded” in the Police Act 2020, the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015, and other relevant police regulations. Their core competencies must align with key areas such as drill, musketry, unarmed combat, professional studies, legal studies, or liberal studies. This injection of experienced former personnel is intended to enhance the quality of training provided to the massive new batch of recruits.
