APC Poised to Gain More Opposition Governors, Akpabio Declares

APC Poised to Gain More Opposition, The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to significantly expand its political control across Nigeria, with several governors currently belonging to opposition parties reportedly preparing to defect. This assurance was publicly delivered by Senate President Godswill Akpabio to President Bola Tinubu during a public event in Owerri, Imo State, on October 1, 2025.

Speaking at the launch of a book detailing the APC administration’s impactful leadership authored by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma Akpabio confidently stated that the ruling party should brace itself to welcome new members from rival camps.

“Mr. President, with what you have done in the last two years, get ready to receive more governors from the opposition parties. As I speak, there are several governors in Nigeria today, who are ready to be received by you,” Akpabio declared.

While the Senate President did not disclose specific names, his comments have intensified political speculation regarding potential movements within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party. Political analysts suggest that states currently experiencing significant internal party conflicts or strained alliances, such as Rivers, Abia, Kano, Osun, and Benue, could be fertile ground for defection maneuvers.

Akpabio attributed the anticipated surge in defections directly to the positive reception of President Tinubu’s economic and political reforms.

He argued that the administration’s policy decisions have resonated with ordinary Nigerians, including students, farmers, and businessmen. According to the Senate President, the tangible results of these reforms are now “yielding results, in the overall interest and benefit of the people,” which is winning the confidence of opposition figures and paving the way for their move to the APC.

The announcement underscores the APC’s ongoing strategy to consolidate power and establish a deeper national footprint, building on a history of attracting high-profile opposition figures since the party first came to power in 2015. FOR MORE INFORMATION, I RECOMMEND SONGBUX.
